Children, as the Word of God says, are a gift of God to us as parents, and by extension, even to the Church – “3 Behold, children are a heritage and gift from the Lord, The fruit of the womb a reward.” – Psalms 127:3 [Amplified Version.] The children are given to us with a purpose. In that sense, they are also our responsibility.
The Bible very clearly speaks about children, and that enables us to see the heart of God, towards children. “13 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. 15 And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.” – Matthew 19:13-15.
The LORD speaking through A prophet Isaiah says – “15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.
16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.” – Isaiah 49:15-16.
Therefore, we are exhorted to care for the welfare of the children given to us, and nurture them to fruitfulness, in love and tenderness. This is our responsibility – “6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6.
“4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.” – Ephesians 6:4
May the LORD bless our children, and enable us to care for their welfare in love and tenderness. So God help us.
