Can we even fathom the greatness of God? It would be a futile effort, and sheer arrogance, to even think so. Yet, we can, in a very limited sense, see and acknowledge the greatness and awesomeness of God.
Speaking about the greatness of God, should remind us about the beautiful hymn, “O LORD my God.” What a hymn it is, and what words to describe the LORD God Almighty, and His infinite greatness!!!
O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works Thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy pow’r thru-out the universe displayed!
Equally impressive is the refrain, which is an apt and an appropriate human response to such power, greatness and awesomeness of the LORD God Almighty, the Creator of all things visible and invisible – Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee; How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
How do we look at God our LORD? What kind of thoughts cross our minds when we think about God? What kind of descriptive words do we use in describing God? Who is the LORD God Almighty to us…personally…deep within our hearts and our soul? Who is God to us? If it is anything less than an awe, wonder and astonishment, then our understanding is not proper, nor balanced well. May the LORD help us to see Him and His greatness, as much as humanly possible, and now in humble adoration of the LORD God Almighty.
"Men are never duly touched and impressed with a conviction of their insignificance until they have contrasted themselves with the majesty of God."
