July 21, 2026Every day we are compelled to make choices. It is not an easy job. Some choices are easy to make. Some choices are not. Some choices are critical and important in our lives. Some choices have a lifelong impact. Every choice we make has an impact on us, our life and our personality and character.
I recently came across an anonymous quote on the significance of choices in the success of our lives, and how our life gets shaped by our choices.
– “Hard work is a choice. Attitude is a choice. Discipline is a choice. Doing extra is a choice. Excellence is a choice. There are no shortcuts for success – you must work for it!” – Anonymous
What I could gather from the above quote is this – To desire a good life is fine. However, good life and success doesn’t come automatically. It comes by the conscientious and intentional choices we make, backed up by a determined desire to walk that path. Understanding this is essential for a life of success and achievement.
Above all, as a Christian, our choices have to be fully in line with the law of the LORD – morally and ethically. A thief can also have a disciplined life…he may even be a highly successful person in what he does. That does not make the thief a good person. Therefore it is imperative for us not only to have good intentions, but have them aligned with the LORD.
– “Choices determine the direction of our life and our destiny. Some decisions have far reaching consequences and other decisions are not so far reaching. However, many of the decisions we make determine our character, determine our destiny, and determine our eternity.” – Nicholas Anca
The Sermon on the Mount [Matthew chapters 5-7] give us an in-depth insight into how the LORD Jesus wants us, the Christians, His disciples and *as the partakers in the kingdom of God, to think, speak and behave* – Matthew 5:21-22; 27-28;33-37;
– “43 “You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? 48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.” – Matthew 5:43-48
May we always seek the LORD Jesus to help us make the right choices all the days of our lives. May we always desire to live a life that pleases our Redeemer all the days of our lives. May we always walk on the paths that our Master Himself walked, all the days of our lives. Even so the LORD help us.
