Man, from the time he rebelled against his Creator, in the Garden of Eden, always wanted to be independent of God. This has become our nature. We want to be our own ‘gods’ and rule ourselves. We do not want to be under the lordship of God Almighty.
All aspects of human affairs reflect this innate desire of man. Even though, our time, talent, health and so many other factors, are not in our control, but rather in the hands of God, we still want God to be out of the equation. Such is the human desire to deny God, and distance ourselves from Him and His influence.
YAHWEH, speaking through His prophet Moses, admonishes and warns the people of God thus – “17 Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’ 18 You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.” – Deuteronomy 8:17-18. The above verse sums up, the tendency of human heart. What a tragedy.
How about us? Do we realise that the hand of God is, the primary factor for our success? Do we acknowledge it? Do we remind ourselves of God’s goodness, grace and mercy towards us? Are we aware, that we do not deserve anything? Are we being faithful stewards of the many blessing that we are blessed with? What is our perspective towards success? What is out attitude towards all that is achieved in our lives?
Let us learn to be grateful and thankful to the LORD for all His blessings. Even so, the LORD help us.
"If you have money, power, and status today, it is due to the century and place in which you were born, to your talents and capacities and health, none of which you earned. In short, all your resources are in the end the gift of God."
