We are studying about sanctification for the past few days now. The Bible makes it crystal clear that, unless we willingly surrender ourselves to the work of sanctification by the Holy Spirit, and the progress of which is clearly visible in us, to whatever degree it may be from person to person, on a day to day basis, we cannot and should not count ourselves to be truly Christian. The simple logic is – if we have in us, the life that the LORD Jesus gives, then it will be visible in our growth towards Christian maturity. If there is no progress; then there is no life; if there is no life, then we are dead people walking. Simple and straight.
Let us look at what David writes in Psalm 103:1-6 and see what more we can learn about the visible work of sanctification in us.
– “1 Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. 6 The LORD executes righteousness And justice for all who are oppressed.” – Psalm 103:1-6
Let us study Psalm 103:3b – “WHO HEALS ALL YOUR DISEASES” – This is what I could gather.
– God heals all our diseases.
– The diseases that we are ailed with has both spiritual and physical dimensions.
– The spiritual diseases are of far greater consequences than physical diseases.
– Spiritual sicknesses have tremendous influence upon our heart, mind and body.
– God’s healing is wholesome healing.
– God’s healing is multidimensional healing.
– The healing that our LORD brings about in us covers, mental, emotional, physical, intellectual, social, economic, relational and every other dimension of ailment and sickness that one may be infected with.
– The most important healing of all is, they the LORD Jesus brings about, is the healing of the broken relationship between God and us.
– Restoration of the broken relationship between God and us, paved the way for every other healing.
– God heals our sick and evil hearts.
– God heals our sick and evil minds – for now, we think, speak and do things differently.
We should be grateful and thankful to the LORD for His multidimensional and wholesome healing.
– “What is pride, but lunacy? What is lust, but a leprosy? What is sloth, but a dead palsy? Perhaps there are spiritual maladies similar to all [bodily] ones.” – George Horne [1730 to 1792]
The LORD Jesus most certainly heals us. As His disciples, we are CALLED to be “healers” too. Now what do I mean by this? For sure, we cannot heal diseases, like how our LORD did. However, we as His disciples and His ambassadors, can surely bring healing into troubled and broken world and in all our relationships. Ambassadors of Christ means to represent the LORD Jesus, and work for, and on His behalf of our LORD, for His purposes, for His glory, and for the blessing of His people. This brings lasting and wholesome healing, that comes only from the LORD Jesus Christ.
– “13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” – James 5:13-16
– When we become Christians, God makes us the channels of His blessing, and the channels of His healing.
– God’s healing flows through us, if we are willing to allow God to work His healing [SANCTIFICATION] in us, and desire wholeheartedly, to walk faithfully and obediently in all His ways.
– When we walk so, God’s Holy Spirit and His power flows in and through us.
– When the power of God flows in our thoughts, words and deeds, then this brings the much needed healing through us, to all the needy people around us.
– Jesus had compassion on the needy people – WE TOO CAN.
– Jesus cared for the needy people – WE TOO CAN.
– Jesus took time for the poor and the needy people – WE TOO CAN.
– Jesus went out of the way to help the needy people – WE TOO CAN.
– Jesus was patient with the needy people – WE TOO CAN.
– Jesus was kind with the needy people – WE TOO CAN.
– Jesus was considerate about the needy people – WE TOO CAN.
– Jesus was forgiving with the needy people – WE TOO CAN.
– Jesus was non-judgmental with the needy people – WE TOO CAN.
The process and the progress of sanctification is a sure sign of God working in us. When God works in us, we become His instruments of healing, in His compassionate hands. Are we willing to be instruments of healing in the hands of our LORD? May we choose to be God’s ambassadors, and walk with our LORD, faithfully and obediently. Even so, the LORD help us.
"and heals all your diseases...speaks to God's power to heal physical, emotional, and spiritual ailments. In the biblical context, disease often symbolized the consequences of sin and separation from God. Healing, therefore, is not just physical but also a restoration of the relationship with God. The ministry of Jesus is marked by numerous healings, demonstrating His authority over sickness and His compassion (Matthew 8:16-17). This healing is also prophetic, pointing to the ultimate healing and restoration in the new creation (Revelation 21:4). The promise of healing reflects God's comprehensive care for His people, addressing both the root of sin and its manifestations."
