Exhaustion, tiredness and weariness, is one of the most common things we encounter, as a Christian, walking on the narrow path. It is not some unnatural, nor is it abnormal. Certainly, it is not just our problem alone. It is encountered by every Christian worth his salt.
Weariness is encountered because of the constant conflict that a Christian has both inside and outside. This conflict, is taking place almost every moment of our lives – it is on a daily basis – there is no way out of it. The reason? We have a value system, that is totally in variance with the world. At times, every decision would become a conflict. Therefore, the conflict… therefore the weariness.
Weariness is also because we do not have much inspiring, encouraging and uplifting company on this path. The reason is not so much, that fellow travellers don’t care for us. The path is narrow and lonely. The few who walk on this path, would be having their own personal struggles, and thus their own weariness. Hence, they may not be in a position to help other going through weariness.
The Bible which is the source of all our strength and inspiration, encourages us to continue our walk on the narrow path. The walk is surely tough, but we have an unlimited source of encouragement in it pages, written down for us by the LORD God Almighty. Let us check out some verses for our encouragement.
– “9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” – Galatians 6:9-10
– “58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 15:58
– “1 Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart.” – 2 Corinthians 4:1
– “13 But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good…16 Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:13;16
The LORD will strengthen us. Let us not lose heart and wander from this narrow path, that we are called to.
– “29 He [GOD] gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, 31 But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:29-31
Even so the LORD help us all to keep on walking this path, despite all our struggles and the weariness. Let us not lose heart. Let us keep walking in the strength of the LORD. He will do the needful. Worry not, and fear not…the LORD who promised is faithful.
"Oh, there is, in contemplating Christ, a balm for every wound, in musing on the Father, there is a quietus for every grief- and in the influence of the Holy Ghost, there is a balsam for every sore. Would you lose your sorrows? Would you drown your cares? Then go plunge yourself in the Godhead’s deepest sea; be lost in his immensity; and you shall come forth as from a couch of rest, refreshed and invigorated."
