Anyone who employed lies in any of their deals is *an untrustworthy person.* Whatever may be the reason, and whatever may be the situation, one cannot and should not employ lies.
A liar is announcing to the world, that when push comes to shove, he will abandon the all propriety, and will not think about the other person, and will dump anyone and anything, to survive the situation. It is the first sign of serious weakness, which before long, will lead the person from bad to worse.
Henry Ward Beecher says, “Whatever is only almost true is quite false, and among the most dangerous of errors, because being so near truth, it is the more likely to lead astray.” Also, “There is no such thing as white lies; a lie is as black as a coal pit, and twice as foul.”
Why did God choose to include lying in the list of Ten Commandments? Because, it is important for us not to lie. It breaks the trust, and destroys the relationship. “16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.””1 “You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness. 2 You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after many to pervert justice. 3 You shall not show partiality to a poor man in his dispute.” – Exodus 20:16, 23:1-3.
“22 Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, But those who deal truthfully are His delight.”
“44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” – Proverbs 12:22, John 8:44.
One who is willing to pay the price for upholding the truth, may for the present, lose and incur loss. However, in the long run, a man who stands for truth will be a winner, gaining much more than what he had to sacrifice in the first place.
Please, don’t compromise by justifying and rationalising lying, and consider it as tact in handling a tricky situation. Being honest, truthful and transparent will always pay us good. So let us stand for it.
"A lie consists in speaking a falsehood with the intention of deceiving."
