People of God and persecution, when we look into the history, are like two sides of the same coin. Strange as it may seem, such is the intense dislike for the Christians, by the world and it’s powers. Many times we mistakenly think, the hate is all about us. No, we can’t be farther from truth. The hate for Christians is about God whom we follow, and not about us. Since we follow the God Almighty, the God of all creation, the LORD who chose to die for us and our redemption on the cross of Calvary, we have become the obvious target of hate.
It is good for us to take the lesson from David’s words in Psalm 124:8 – “8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.”* David is absolutely clear about his source of help. *He is not looking for his safety and security anywhere else, nor in anyone else, other than the LORD God Almighty.
The same is echoed in Psalm 124:1-3 and in Psalm 121:1-2 – “1 “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side,” Let Israel now say – 2 “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, When men rose up against us, 3 Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their wrath was kindled against us;” “1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills – From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.”
Prophet Jeremiah’s words are like a good summing up of this thought – “23 Truly, in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, And from the multitude of mountains; Truly, in the LORD our God Is the salvation of Israel.” – Jeremiah 3:23
It is good for us as Christians, living in the last days, to look to the LORD, rather than to some political powers for our help and security. The world and it’s rulers, were, and are always, more interested in using the persecution of Christians for their interests, and the furtherance of their empires. This is a reality we cannot and should not ignore, and naively believe, in some kind of utopian faith in the powers, and the systems, of this world.
May the LORD help us see the futility of man’s help, and the true safety under the Almighty’s wings – “1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” – Psalm 91:1-2.
"We can’t protect or expand the cause of Christ by human political and social activism, no matter how great or sincere the efforts. Ours is a spiritual battle against worldly ideologies and dogmas that are arrayed against God, and we achieve victory over them only with the weapon of Scripture."
