Name reveals to us much more than just the name of the person. Our names have meaning and they have a purpose behind them.
The name of the LORD, as the Bible declares, is a name worth trusting in and depending upon at all times. This is precisely why David, writing in Psalm 8 says this…
– “9 O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth!” – Psalm 8:9
David comes straight to the point that he wants to make. He begins this Psalm by declaring…
– “1 O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens!” – Psalm 8:1
The name of the LORD is…
– a standard and the ultimate measure of all goodness, grace, mercy, love, forgiveness, justice and righteousness.
– It is a name that anyone in this world can call upon.
– It is a name that we can trust and depend upon without any doubt.
– When anyone, honestly and sincerely seeks the LORD, He will answer every such call.
The Bible further reveals to us the greatness and the trustworthiness of His name in the following verses. Let us read on…
– “10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.” – Proverbs 18:10
– “8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.” – Psalm 124:8
– “7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.” – Psalms 20:7
The written Word of God further declares to our benefit and our understanding that the LORD is Someone, whom we should always trust, and always come seeking His grace, mercy and providence. For in Him alone is our good and our welfare.
– “32 And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, As the LORD has said, Among the remnant whom the LORD calls.” – Joel 2:32
– “3 Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’” – Jeremiah 33:3
So, dear brothers and sisters, let us look up to the LORD always. Let us learn to trust the LORD at all times. Let us come to this realisation that, the name of the LORD is our strong tower, our refuge. He is trustworthy and dependable. Therefore, let us place our faith in His name, and let us walk in all obedience under His name, which is our banner. Even so, the LORD help us.
"In ancient Hebrew culture, a name was more than just a label; it represented the character and essence of a person. The “name of the LORD” refers to God’s revealed character and attributes, such as His power, faithfulness, and holiness. Throughout the Old Testament, God’s name is associated with His covenant relationship with Israel (Exodus 3:14-15). The name of the LORD signifies His presence and authority, as seen in the use of His name in blessings and oaths (Numbers 6:24-27)."
