In the life of a Christian, there certainly will come many ups and downs.
– There are times when we are unsure about ourselves and our faith.
– There are times when darkness that surrounds us seems like it is going to be there forever.
– There will be times when we will feel weak, helpless and hopeless.
– There will come times where we have to come to God with our heads hanging in shame, asking for forgiveness because of our sin and rebellion.
– There will be times when we will wonder what more should “I” do to love a holy life that is pleasing to our LORD.
Here under are four prayers, that we will have to pray many times in our life, as Christians, and the disciples of the LORD Jesus Christ. We also will find appropriate Scriptures that will surely strengthen us and help us, to steady our spiritual journey. It will help us realise that, we cannot on our own, live for God, unless LORD helps us in the process of our sanctification, and makes us stand steady and strong by His grace. Let us make these
I- SEARCH ME O LORD
– “23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.” – Psalm 139:23-24
II- SPEAK TO ME O LORD
– “10 Now the LORD came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.” – 1 Samuel 3:10
III- STRENGTHEN ME O LORD
– “19 But You, O LORD, do not be far from Me; O My Strength, hasten to help Me!” – Psalm 22:19
– “1 Save me, O God, by Your name, And vindicate me by Your strength. 2 Hear my prayer, O God; Give ear to the words of my mouth.” – Psalm 54:1-2
IV- SANCTIFY ME O LORD
– “1 Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin…7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow…10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” – Psalm 51:1-2,7,10
The provisions that God makes for us is not to take them as license to sin, or continue in sin. The LORD wants us to live a holy and sanctified life. Yet, He also understand that, the flesh that we are bound with, will pull us down, if we are not careful and alert. Hence the provision for the forgiveness of our sins if any, whenever we falter and fail. Remember it is only a provision, a stop gap arrangement, and not a license. If we seem to take it as license, then we should take a deeper and dispassionate look at ourselves. There is something seriously wrong, that needs our urgent and ardent attention.
Dear brothers and sisters, the prayers that we looked at this morning, and their relevant verses, should be part of our personal prayers on a regular basis. The desire being, we take a deeper and honest look into our spiritual lives, evaluate our spiritual health; and if found wanting, seek the LORD with all our heart, for grace, to rectify the error, so that we live a life, that is pleasing to the LORD Jesus Christ, our Master and our Redeemer. Even so, the LORD help us.
"David prayed to Yahweh, [with the] understanding that He [God] had personal knowledge of him. Pagans often thought that their gods were hostile or indifferent to men and women; David knew that the true God cared enough to have searched and known each man and woman. -It’s not just that God knows everything – He knows me. -It’s not just that God is everywhere – He is everywhere with me. -It’s not just that God created everything – He created me."
