We find giants in every field. They are gifted, and are head and shoulders above a lot of people. That is the reason why they are called ‘Giants.’
The Bible too recognises giants. Abraham, David, Daniel, Paul and the likes, are giants in one sense. However, the passage found in 1 Corinthians 13:2 has something very profound to say – “2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”
LOVE, the theme of the Bible, is given a very special exposition in 1 Corinthians 13, which is rightly called, the Chapter on Love. Giants, with all their spiritual standing are of no value at all, if they do not have love. What contrasting parallel is drawn, to bring the truth to the fore! Love is the supreme virtue, and all else come next only to it.
Yesterday, we saw about the intellectuals and brilliant people, who without love are “empty vessels.” Today, we see, “empty giants” if love is absent. Love, as described and prescribed by the Word of God, becomes the foundation of every Christian’s life. Without which, all that we posess, however excellent it might be, it is counted to be nothing. What a conclusion!
Where do we stand?
"The overriding character trait of Jesus is love, and the entire Gospel story is woven with love. Sometimes it’s not easy, and oftentimes it requires sacrifice, but it’s when we love that we are the most like Jesus."
