Money is much needed, but also, the most destructive of all evils. Money has the power to corrupt good hearts. That is why Paul says, “Love of money is the root of all evil.” – 1 Timothy 6:10. How one handles money, is a great indicator of the person, family, society and the nation.
Martin Luther King Jr. has this to say about money and a nation – “A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.”
The world we live in today, is spending more on wars of all kinds, than anything worthwhile that actually benefits human beings. People and societies are deeply into destroying others, so that they can live…they alone must live. War mongers are worthless and evil people. They are like the bullies, who wish to make everyone subservient, and control and dominate others, that everything and everyone will serve them and their interests. Crumbs are thrown to the ‘side-kicks’ who cheer, support and stand with the bully. Have we not seen wars of massive destruction, in a small parcel of land, and by a very small percentage of world’s population, in the past 100 years – for money, power and control? Does it not tell us that economic power -money- and world domination is the sole purpose of all such warmongering?
Societies and nations are not in our purview; nor are we in a position of influence to alter it. We can’t do anything about it, but to watch them from a distance. However, we can pray for our nation, and seek the LORD, to help the people in power and authority to rule well, and spend the money purposefully and prudently, for the benefit and the blessing of the citizens, not to destroy others and sustain their hegemony perpetually. The mighty Rome also fell, so also, the present day warmongering gods of rules.
"Give me five minutes with a person’s cheque book, and I will tell you where their heart is."
