Let us continue to read Psalm 62:5-8, and see, what we can learn from these words today.
– “5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.” – Psalm 62:5-8
Yesterday, we saw the first part of Psalm 62:5 – “My soul, wait thou only upon God;” Today, let us seek the LORD to speak to us through the second part of Psalm 62:5b.
– “…for my expectation is from him.”
The choice of words that David uses, speaks a lot about what is on his mind, and his understanding about God, and His workings. In these six words, we see…
– A Personalised Expression of Faith – “MY” expectation
– Clear Thought
– Definite Assertion
– Set Conclusion
– No Confusion
– No Doubts About God
– No Other Option Under Consideration
The above observations, give us a glimpse of the depth of David’s understanding about God, and the trust David has on the certainty of God’s reliability. David comes as someone, who completely trusts God, and therefore, is at peace and rest, come what may.
– “3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. 4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:” – Isaiah 26:3-4
How about us? Do we have same thoughts and ideas about God? Do we follow up our thoughts about God with, definite and assertive conclusions? Do we take God seriously, and step out in faith, trusting God to meet all our needs and necessities? May the faith that David had in his God, be ours too. May we too like David, place our trust in YAHWEH, and step out in faith, despite all that may be surrounding us. Even so the LORD help us.
"...the source of true hope, which is God Himself....This hope is not wishful thinking but a confident expectation based on God’s character and past faithfulness. Theologically, this points to the ultimate hope found in Jesus Christ, who fulfills God’s promises and offers eternal hope to believers..."
