Being thankful and grateful is not a natural human trait. It is hard for us to be thankful and grateful, because, we tend to think it is all our doing. Remember the lie in the garden?
The lying and deceiving serpent said, “5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” – Genesis 3:5. The emphasis is on ‘being like God.’ Simply put, all that we have is, all that we have achieved on our own. Therefore, why give credit to God, or to anyone for that matter, when it is you who did it, on your own? Sounds very logical, and also very reasonable, isn’t it? This is the deception that resides in the human heart.
The day we realise that, it is God who loved us, rescued us, and is restoring us back to His original design; then we will see the invisible hand of God, working in and through us. The day we fully grasp our utter depravity, and the grace, mercy, and goodness of God towards us, when we’re His enemies, then the praise will flow in and through us, unceasingly.Let us consider some Scripture verses to see the reasons to be grateful and thankful to the LORD.
“1 Praise the LORD! Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. 2 Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? Who can declare all His praise?
1 I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. 2 I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.
1 I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2 My soul shall make its boast in the LORD; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. 3 Oh, magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together. – Psalms 106:1-2; 9:1-2; 34:1-3.
May we always be grateful and thankful to the LORD, all our lives. Let us never forget, that it is because of the LORD, and only because of Him, we are what we are, and enjoying the good in life. O give thanks to the LORD! Even so the LORD help us.
"A state of mind that sees God in everything is evidence of growth in grace and a thankful heart."
