We are living in times, where sifting through the maze of information and opinions are paraded as ‘the truth.’ Hence, arriving objectively at the truth, has become a tough task, to say the least. No wonder the Bible says…
“3 And in their greed they will exploit you with false words.” – 2 Peter 2:3
“1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.
2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.” – Proverbs 18:1-2
In our pursuit of truth, we have to realise that, opinions are personalised perspectives of an individual – and they could be right, wrong, while being deeply prejudiced and working intentionally for an agenda. Many times, our opinions are a reflection of our pre-determined positions, pre-conceived notions, and at times they are about our deep rooted prejudices and biases.
Unless verified thoroughly, questioned intensely, and brutally honest and truthful with ourselves, we will be come over and conquered by our fears and prejudices, which will, invariably result in damage and destruction, to us, our family, our friends, and all that are around us. It will just not stop with us. It will impact the world around us, long after we are gone.
Therefore, we ought to be careful not to conclude every opinion as good and right, nor bad and wrong, at its face value. If so, it will only worsen the problem. We should learn to gather all the possible information on the subject, and get all the possible angles. Then analyse them thoroughly, and finally come to a conclusion. This helps us a lot in arriving closer to the truth.
"24 Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbour. 34 So Peter opened his mouth and said: Truly I understand that God shows no partiality"
