The LORD Jesus Christ, speaking to the disciples, enlightens them [and us too] about the significance of prayer for a disciple, and how to go about it – “1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;” – Luke 18:1
The point to note about prayer and praying, is that, firstly, we “ought to pray always.” Secondly, we should “not faint.”
Fainting is a loss of consciousness, or a sudden temporary loss of consciousness. We become unconscious and faint because of lack or loss of strength. Same applies to prayer. That is why the LORD said – “…that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;”
In some other versions “…not lose heart:” is used. It can be observed that we fail in praying, because we lose heart and give up…may be all too quickly and easily. This is because, we can become discouraged, and then no longer pray as we ought to. Such a situation brings to the fore, the need to persist in prayer. Persistence in prayer, in the face of opposition is what the LORD is helping us to see.
May the LORD who taught us how to pray, help us to pray always, and more so, in the face of opposition, from within and without, that we persist in prayer, and not faint or lose heart. The LORD will surely help!
"Battles are won or lost on the field of prayer, but even prayer can be a battle."
