Why should we reflect upon the year that is gone by? Remembering, Recollecting and Reflecting not only helps us go through the things that are gone by, but also helps us to evaluate them in proper perspective, and see things with clarity, which in turn, will help us move ahead in the right direction.
David, the poet king has these words to offer us, as advise and wisdom…
“1 Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:
3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,
4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” – Psalm 103.
David says, “forget not” and always be thankful. When we look back and reflect, praise and thanksgiving should and will flow out of a grateful heart. The secret is in how we see and reflect about the past. We can see the glass as half empty, or half full. Both views will invoke different and diametrically opposite positions. One is negative and pessimistic, while the other being positive and optimistic.
"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
