As Christians, we are called to do the right thing. Advent is just that. God saw the fallen man, then He decided to do what is right. God chose to save us, not because we are good, and that, we deserve it. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us!!! God chose to love us, and willingly die for us, because, He did not want to leave the mess, we created, as it is. God did the right thing, despite we deserving the contrary.
God’s intentional intervention, to do the right thing, is so clearly visible in the parable of the Good Samaritan. The dirty, ugly and much hated Samaritan did, what was the right thing to do, disregarding the cost and the consequences he might face, because of his choice to help and Jew.
Another dimension of God doing the right thing, is seen in the earthly ministry of Jesus. Our Redeemer checked, the proud and the arrogant religious leaders. Yet, with all gentleness and grace, He spoke to the lady caught in adultery. He loved sinners with all his heart, and lambasted the proud and the pretenders, who thought they were serving God. Nay, they were using God to serve their own ends.
Doing the right thing, for a disciple, is all about following our LORD, our Master, and our God, in all what He stands for. It is standing up for truth, and doing the right thing, disregarding the cost and the consequences.
Would we have the courage to stand up for truth, and do the right thing? Would we have the courage to gracefully, and in love, speak the truth. Can we call a spade a spade? Can we say this is wrong, not in a condescending manner, but in gentleness and humility? Will we be able to speak the truth, even if they are our own? If yes, is our response, O Christian, we are ‘hired’ for the kingdom’s work. God is looking for such disciples. Let us follow, the LORD Jesus’ example.
"The right way is not always the popular and easy way. Standing for right when it is unpopular is a true test of moral character."
