As we fast approach Christmas, let us meditate on love of God, this LORD’s day. It is love, that compelled the LORD, to take up the cause of the lost world, despite our rebellion. It is love, that compelled the LORD, to take up the cross, despite its cruelty. It is love, that compelled the LORD, to become the sacrificial lamb for the remission of our sins, and for the restoration of our souls, despite our hate for righteousness. What kind of love this should be??? Amazing and unparalleled kind of love!!! What kind of a person should love like this??? A God who is love!!!
“16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
“8…God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
“4…God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)”
“5…Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, 6 and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” – John 3:16; Romans 5:8; Ephesians 2:4; Revelation 1:5-6
The love, that the LORD demonstrated, is the same love, that we too ought to demonstrate, in our lives. This is what the LORD expects from His children and His ambassadors – “9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” – 1 John 4:9-11
What the Bible says, and expects from us, is this, “We have to love others, including our enemies, just as Christ loved, everyone, including His enemies. Mind you, we were once, part of God’s enemies. Do we love like our LORD? No excuses, and no exceptions. Either we love like our LORD, or we don’t? There is no middle ground here.
"In the grammar of the Christian faith, what we are called to be and do is rooted in who God is and what he has done for us in Christ. So the resources we need to love others this Christmas season are found in the love of Jesus Christ for us."
