Advent season is an appropriate time for us, to pause and ponder on essential matters, concerning our Christian life. We saw the purpose for which our LORD had become human. We also saw, the invitation the LORD had given, to the world. This world, including us, have to make up our minds, as to what we wish to do with Jesus’ invitation.
Those of us, who have accepted the invitation of our LORD, and have committed ourselves to Him, have done the best possible thing, in our entire life. For there is nothing better than confessing our sins, and accepting the gracious and merciful invitation, of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
However, the point we ought to note, and note it well, is that, we are called to be Jesus’ disciples. We are called to walk in the way He walked. We are called to walk in His footsteps. The LORD has called us to be His witnesses. So, we are expected to focus on it, more than anything else in our lives. This is our only purpose, for our life, as a Christian, and as a disciple of the LORD.
Peter, writing to the early Christians, says this – “9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light;” – 1 Peter 2:9
Jesus Himself had commanded us, “13 “You are the salt of the earth…14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden…16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Jesus, having said that, then entrusted this responsibility to us – “15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved…” “19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you…”* for *”12…there [is no] salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” – Matthew 5:13-16; Mark 16:15-16; Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 4:12.
There are two spheres, that we as Christians, ought to remember always, and strive to excel. One is our personal life. We ought to reflect our LORD, in our thoughts, words and deeds, on a personal level. It has to be so, that others may see the LORD in the way we conduct ourselves.
Secondly, we ought to be God’s witnesses and ambassadors all our lives. We need to preach the gospel at all times – in season and out of season – 2 Timothy 4:1-2.
Where are we standing today in relation to the above two points? What have we done with the command and the responsibility that are given to us? Would Jesus call us, “good and faithful servant?”
"If we are going to accomplish the global purpose of God, it will not be primarily through giving our money, as important as that is. It will happen primarily through giving ourselves. This is what the gospel represents and this is what the gospel requires."
