What the LORD ordered in Numbers 6:22-26, which we call the Priestly or Aaronic blessing, or more commonly called the Benediction, gives us a greater, deeper and clearer insight into the heart of YAHWEH, the LORD God Almighty. This blessing is intended by YAHWEH, to be pronounced on behalf of Him. This tells us clearly about who God is, and what, and how, He thinks about His people.
Dwight L. Moody, the great evangelist, speaking about this divine benediction, wrote…
– “Here is a benediction that can go all the world over, and can give all the time without being impoverished. Every heart may utter it; it is the speech of God; every letter may conclude with it; every day may begin with it; every night may be sanctified by it.”
My father uses this blessing in most of his letters, and also in the greeting cards, for any special occasion. Such is this blessing, and its immense appeal. It gives us courage, confidence and comfort, as we walk in life, to face any sort of situation, knowing that God is with us.
The blessing of the LORD tells us in no unmistakable terms that,
– Every Blessing Comes from YAHWEH, the LORD God Almighty.
– The LORD Blesses According to His Will and His Good Pleasure.
– The LORD’s Blessing is All One Needs in Life and For Life.
– We Can Always Trust the Blessing of the LORD.
It further tells us that…
– This is not about our circumstances. It is about us.
– Whatever the circumstances, God can bless you.
– It is God who keeps us safe through life and all its challenges.
– God’s shining His face upon us, and being gracious towards us, is a sign of his favour and mercy; when in reality, we truly deserve, the exact opposite.
– By lifting up His countenance, God is demonstrating to us, both His attention and affection for us.
– The peace that is pronounced upon us is the very presence of God resting upon us. Peace is more than the absence of conflict. Where God is, there is peace, even if we are going through a storm.
Therefore, let us ever be grateful to our LORD for being so kind, gracious and merciful towards us. Let us always remember, God chose to bring us out of the darkness, into His marvellous light, and bless us with such a wholesome blessing. May we always desire to walk faithfully and obediently with our LORD. May we be found as the “good” and “faithful” servant – Matthew 25:14-30. Even so, the LORD help us.
"God is sovereign. God blesses whom he wills, as he wills, where he wills, how he wills, as long as he wills. There is nothing you can do to make God bless you. Great faith cannot do it. Fervent prayer cannot do it. Faithful obedience cannot do it. Sacrificial service cannot do it. Passionate praise cannot do it. Positive confession cannot do it. Seed offerings cannot do it. There is nothing you can do to make God bless you. But there is nothing you need to do to make God bless you. It is the Lord’s will to bless you. The fact that you are still alive means the Lord is not through blessing you."
