The record of the written Word of God reveals to us that, God wanted to rule His people, through His Word through the judges. Israel chose for themselves kings, much to the disliking and the displeasure of the LORD – 1 Samuel 8:1-22.
When God intervened in human history, to bring about the redemption of the sin-filled, sin-driven fallen and rebellious man, He chose to established the Church as His chosen vehicle, and not a Christian nation. One of the most important questions ever to ask in life is the question of “Why?” God chose Church, because this is the best way for the redemption of the fallen man, and the sinful world.
For the first three hundred years, the Church thrived, despite the persecution and in the face of, all kinds of opposition. However, in 312 AD, when emperor Constantine became a Christian, Rome took over the running of the Church, the Church ceased to exist as a living and thriving entity, and we became an empire. All the power, pomp and the paraphernalia of the official state religion was attached to the dynamic faith, and overnight, the status of church changed. We became the official state religion.
Very strange, but we seem to have this uncanny ability, to go back to our old ways of conduct, disregarding what the LORD wants. Let me sum up this through the words of Rev. Benjamin Cremer…
“We want the war horse. Jesus rides a donkey.
We want the eagle. The Holy Spirit descends as a dove.
We want to take up swords. Jesus takes up a cross.
We want the roaring lion. God comes as a slaughtered lamb.
We keep trying to arm God. God keeps trying to disarm us.” What a tragedy!
Let us PLEASE read our Bibles and see for ourselves, what the LORD wants from us. Let us rediscover the “Authentic Christianity,” that which the LORD originally intend, and followed it up, in and through the life of our Saviour, the LORD Jesus Christ. Let us re-read the Gospel narratives. Let us meditate upon the Sermon on the Mount. Let us return back to the ‘Old Ways,’ the original way, the authentic Christian way of life and living. May the LORD help us.
"If Jesus wanted a Christian nation, he would have established one, but he didn’t. He established the church. Whenever we Christians forsake our call to be the church for a “Christian empire,” the results are always catastrophic. We are called to be the church, not an empire."
