The cross on which the LORD Jesus was crucified should remind us of Christ our Redeemer…our Saviour and our Rescuer. To be honest, we can never ever perceive the lengths to which, Christ our Redeemer went, to reach out and rescue us from our sin and its consequences.
Prophet Isaiah, prophetically writes about the Redeemer, a good 700 years before the birth of the LORD Jesus Christ. Here we know in Isaiah 53:2-10, what was the price, that Christ had to pay, for our rescuing and redemption, the lost sinners, who in reality were, his sworn enemies [Romans 5:6-10] – “2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him.3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.
8 …For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
9 And they made His grave with the wicked – But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin…And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
11 …My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities.
12 …He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.”
The cross became a necessity because of the love of the LORD, who chose to pay the price for our sin, and rescue and restore us, instead of punishing us, which we so rightfully deserve – “16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us…” “2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.”
“13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.” – 1 John 3:16, 1 John 2:2, Colossians 2:13-14.
"Thank and glorify His Beloved Son, who, with indescribable suffering, gave His life on Calvary’s cross to pay the debt of mortal sin. He it was who, through His atoning sacrifice, broke the bonds of death and...rose triumphant from the tomb. He is our Redeemer, the Redeemer of all mankind. He is the Savior of the world. He is the Son of God, the Author of our salvation."
