Cross means different things to different people. For some it is a form of punishment. For some others, it a reflection of the supreme sacrifice of Christ. It is also considered as a place of intense suffering. Cross is seen by some, as a result of one’s choices in life. Whatever be one’s views, cross is a place of intense pain and suffering.
For this week we will meditate on cross of our LORD Jesus Christ, its necessity, its meaning and its relevance to us. For today, let us reflect on the “Cross and Sin.”
The Cross of Christ is a direct result of our sin – yours and mine. The Word of God says – “22…there is no difference; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” – Romans 3:22,23.
Sin is in our very nature. We are slaves to sin, and we practice it in our thoughts, words and deeds. The Bible declares the same in Genesis 6:5 – “5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
This is also equally true – None of us are righteous, and we cannot help ourselves out of our sinfulness. No amount of self-help, and our good intentions are going to help us get rid of sin. For such is the power of sin, and its power over us.” The Bible makes it amply clear about this – “20 For there is not a just man on earth who does good And does not sin.” “10…“There is none righteous, no, not one; 11 There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. 12 They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one.” – Ecclesiastes 7:20, Romans 3:10-12.
The intense suffering of our Creator on the cross is the result of our sin. May the LORD help us to see it clearly. May the LORD help us to live truly for Him and Him alone.
"As the salt flavours every drop in the Atlantic, so does sin affect every atom of our nature. It is so sadly there, so abundantly there, that if you cannot detect it, you are deceived."
