Everyone desires for a blessed life. There is nothing wrong with such a desire. It is a good thing. However, “THE KEY TO EVERY GOOD THING” is only by “OUR” OBEDIENCE” to God. So, it is good for us, not to run after the many “Quick Fix Solutions” that are dished out, on a regular basis.
– “Have you noticed how much praying for revival has been going on of late – and how little revival has resulted? I believe the problem is that we have been trying to substitute praying for obeying, and it simply will not work.” – A. W. Tozer
If we read the Bible, we understand plainly and clearly, that there is no easy way to a blessed life, except only through our implicit obedience. Our obedience holds the key to a blessed life. There are no two opinions about it.
– “22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.” – 1 Samuel 15:22-23
– “22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” – James 1:22
– “13 (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;” – Romans 2:13
– “10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.” – John 15:10
What do we mean by obedience? Many people “OBEY” because of many different reasons. Some obey out of FEAR; some out of COMPULSION; some others because of their DUTY. What is the reason, and the driving force, behind our obedience? Augustine, one of the early Church leaders, has these words, that should make us take note.
– “Wicked men obey from fear; good men, from love.” – Augustine
When we love God, with all our heart, soul and mind, obedience to God comes naturally, and obedience becomes a thing of joy. When we wish to obey God for any other reason, other than love, it becomes a burden, and we will miss the very point of godly obedience.
– “God’s commands are designed to guide you to life’s very best. You will not obey Him, if you do not believe Him and trust Him. You cannot believe Him if you do not love Him. You cannot love Him unless you know Him.” – Henry Blackaby
Here is an obedient man, in a realistic human setting. This is what he does, and this is how he conducts his life, as he obeys his God and his Master. Such a life of obedience, will surely bear fruit, that will bless our lives.
– “1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” – Psalm 1:1-3
If ever, we fall into disobedience and sin, which is a possibility, for a Christian, because of our fallen nature, still operating in us; we ought to stop doing the wrong, and seek God for FORGIVENESS and HELP. FORGIVENESS from the sin committed; and HELP to overcome the sin, so that we may live an obedient life of victory.
– “6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” – 1 John 1:6-10
Even so, the LORD help us to live for Him, a faithful and obedient life, as His disciple, and His ambassador.
"The Bible recognizes no faith that does not lead to obedience, nor does it recognize any obedience that does not spring from faith. The two are at opposite sides of the same coin."
