Psalm 20, which according to Bible scholars is a “Prayer for the Battle” psalm. The king and his army are about to fight the enemies who are ready to destroy the kingdom, and the people and the priests say this prayer.
The first four verses sets the tone of the Psalm. It is so comforting and encouraging to all who read them…even today. It speaks of the great assurance of God’s saving work, the salvation of YAHWEH…the help available only in the LORD of all creation…the Almighty God, who is the Alfa and the Omega of all things. Isn’t that comforting to read? It sure is!!!
“1 May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble; May the name of the God of Jacob defend you; 2 May He send you help from the sanctuary, And strengthen you out of Zion; 3 May He remember all your offerings, And accept your burnt sacrifice. Selah 4 May He grant you according to your heart’s desire, And fulfill all your purpose.” – Psalms 20:1-4
This is my prayer too, for all of us, this day – “The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;” [Psalm 20: 1] This comes our even more beautifully in Telugu version – “ఆపత్కాలమందు యెహోవా నీకుత్తరమిచ్చునుగాక యాకోబు దేవుని నామము నిన్ను ఉద్ధరించును గాక.” – కీర్తనలు 20: 1
"4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."
