We, who are the called out, by the LORD, out of darkness, belong to the LORD, and we are His representatives here on the earth, also called, the Church. We are here to be God’s ambassadors and representatives. In that sense, it is our business to live the life to which we are called to, by the LORD. It is our LORD’s business to take care of us, of our life, our safety and our provision.
The LORD is faithful, and He will take care of His Church. We do not need to have any doubts or second thoughts. In April 1937, Mussolini’s armies were taking over Ethiopia. The missionaries of Sudan Interior Mission were terribly concerned about the welfare, safety and security of a small church among the previously spirit-worshiping Wallamo tribe. They also were concerned about being forced to leave the country. One of the missionaries wrote – “We knew God was faithful. But still, we wondered—if we ever come back, what will we find?” The missionaries returned in July 1943, six years after they were forced to leave, only to find that, despite severe persecution by the cruel Italian soldiers, the Christian community had grown from 48 members to 18,000.
My dear brothers and sisters, God is good and gracious. He is the One who laid His life for our redemption. Will He not care for His Church, and protect it? We ought to trust God in the face of persecution. Let us never forget, it the LORD who owns the Church, not us. It is His business to take care of us. It is our business to obey Him and His commands.
"Jesus died and rose again to save his church among all the peoples. "I will build my church." Now he calls us this morning: Will we join him in dying to the world and living to Christ that we may win the peoples in his name? Whoever loses his life for Christ and the gospel will find it and will bring others through the gates from death to life. Amen!"
