The cross displays unambiguously, the heart of God, and His love for the lost sinners…His creation gone rogue, intentionally – John 3:16. The love of the LORD compelled Him to take up the cross, so that, you and I, would be saved from the consequences of our sins and our rebellion. HalleluYah!!!
The second stanza of the hymn, “THE OLD RUGGED CROSS” goes this way…
“Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.”
What does it speak to us? It speaks about the cross, though despised by the world, has a wondrous attraction for us, because it tells us that the dear Lamb of God left His glory, to bear the cross of Calvary, so that you and I would be redeemed and restored. What kind of love is it, that could take up such an amazing rescue act?
May the LORD help us to pause and contemplate on such an unparalleled love. It was our sins…nay, my sins, that nailed the LORD to the cross. Yet, He loves me unconditionally, and with an everlasting love. May we also demonstrate such love, as commanded by our LORD and Redeemer – Matthew 5:43-48.
"Before we can begin to see the cross as something done for us, we have to see it as something done by us."
