Many times, we have very limited, if not a proper and fuller understanding of the heart of God, as revealed in the Word of God. This is what the Word of God reveals to us about who God is, what is at the center of His heart…
– “3 For I proclaim the name of the LORD: Ascribe greatness to our God. 4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.” – Deuteronomy 32:3-4
– “14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face.” – Psalms 89:14
We have very finite knowledge, in some cases, no knowledge at all, of what the LORD our God thinks, and what He wants from us. Even if we do, many times, we do not know precisely, what is expected from us, because we are illiterate, by virtue of not diligently seeking the scriptures. Many times our understanding is hazy. May be, biased and prejudiced too. Let us see what the Word of God has to say to us…
– “6 With what shall I come before the LORD, And bow myself before the High God? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, With calves a year old? 7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, Ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? 8 HE HAS SHOWN YOU, O MAN, WHAT IS GOOD; AND WHAT DOES THE LORD REQUIRE OF YOU BUT TO DO JUSTLY, TO LOVE MERCY, AND TO WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD?” – Micah 6:6-8
God Almighty wants us to be like Him, in our thoughts, words and deeds. He expects us to be loving, kind, merciful and forgiving, for sure. The LORD also expects us to be JUST, FAIR and RIGHTEOUS, in all our dealings, as His children and as His ambassadors…
– “1 “You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness. 2 You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after many to pervert justice. 3 You shall not show partiality to a poor man in his dispute.
– 4 “If you meet your enemy’s ox or his donkey going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again. 5 If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying under its burden, and you would refrain from helping it, you shall surely help him with it.
– 6 “You shall not pervert the judgment of your poor in his dispute. 7 Keep yourself far from a false matter; do not kill the innocent and righteous. For I will not justify the wicked. 8 And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the discerning and perverts the words of the righteous.
– 9 “Also you shall not oppress a stranger, for you know the heart of a stranger, because you were strangers in the land of Egypt.” – Exodus 23:1-9
The above words need to read again and again, to truly see the heart of God. If only we can SEE what the LORD our God is like.
Now that we read from the Word of God, and know WHO the LORD is, WHAT His heart is like, and WHAT He desires from us – let us ask ourselves, if we measure up to the standard, that will be used by God, against all human dealings. Both, the LETTER OF THE LAW, and the SPIRIT OF THE LAW, are of utmost importance to the LORD. How do we fare, O JEW and the GENTILE – the PEOPLE of GOD? Would the righteous Judge of all, count us FAIR, JUST and RIGHTEOUS, in all our dealings, just like Himself?
– “1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” – Ephesians 5:1-2
May the LORD help us.
"God’s personal, passionate concern for justice and righteousness was the starting place for His people to build them into every part of their culture. The place we should all live from is “justice and righteousness.” Everything we do, from the way we raise our families to the way we run our businesses to our own relationships with the vulnerable, should reflect “justice and righteousness."
