The apostle Paul, writing to the believers at Philippi, expresses his desire for them, as the children of God. He says, “8 For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ. 9 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, 10 that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, 11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” – Philippians 1:8-11
Paul is praying for this group of Christians, and his primary desire for them and their welfare is expressed in these words…
1 – “that your LOVE may ABOUND still MORE and more in KNOWLEDGE and all DISCERNMENT,”
2 – “10 that you may APPROVE the things that are EXCELLENT,”
3 – “that you may be SINCERE and WITHOUT OFFENSE till the day of Christ,”
4 – “11 being FILLED with the FRUITS of RIGHTEOUSNESS which are by Jesus Christ, to the GLORY and PRAISE of GOD.”
Now, let us look at the list that Paul mentions, and read it as if written to us. How will we see the very same verses now? Would they mean much more, if we read them, as written to us personally? May the LORD help us.
"Bearing fruit is always the result of abiding in Jesus (John 15:4-6). As we abide in Him, we receive the life and nutrients we need to naturally bear fruit to the glory and praise of God."
