Everyone of us, as Christians, do pray to the LORD. Everyday we pray for so many things. Our prayers speak about our needs, our concerns and the situations that we are in. It also reveals to us, what is it that is the most pressing thing in our lives. What is it, that is the most important thing in our lives. This particular aspect of prayer, reveals a lot about us, and the general direction of our spiritual health and its progress.
What are our prayers? What do they consist of? Here under, I have three prayers, that are the most important needs for me. I like to call them the “Three Prayers of a Christian.”
1- LORD, Help me to KNOW You
2- LORD, Help me to LIVE for You
3- LORD, Help me to be Your WITNESS
LORD, Help me to KNOW You that I may grow as a Christian in my knowledge about You. May the words of Paul be an inspiration for this need.
– “7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,” – Philippians 3:7-10
LORD, Help me to LIVE for You – so that You and You alone are lifted up and glorified in and through my life. The LORD knows our frailty and our finiteness. May we find inspiration in the words of Paul, to live for God.
– “7 For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.” – Romans 14:7-8
LORD, Help me to be Your WITNESS – that all who see my me, would see You in my life – my thoughts, words and deeds. May I always be an instrument of blessing in Your hands, and be Your witness, always.
– “17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17-20
These three are absolutes. They do not, and cannot, and should not be, changed, altered, modified, lowered, diluted or adulterated in any manner.
All our life, and all that it consists of, should adapt and adjust itself uncompromisingly, and without complaining, or grumbling, to these three prayers.
If there is clash between the three prayers, and us, we should go with the principles of the LORD, and sacrifice happily, our dreams, plans and desires, unhesitantly.
Herein is our good and our fruitfulness. May the LORD grant these our prayers, so that we would be truly the disciples of the LORD our God, and our Redeemer. Even so the LORD help us.
"The true dimensions of a soul are seen in its delights. Not what we dutifully will, but what we passionately want, reveals our excellence or evil...not only does the pursuit of joy in God give strength to endure; it is the key to breaking the power of sin on our way to heaven."
