VIOLENCE AGAINST CHRISTIANS

August 25, 2026Today is Monday, and most of us would be going to our offices. A job is not only a means to put our talents to work, and live a purposeful life, but is also a godly means to earn our livelihood. At the end of the month, we not only get money as salary, but will also enjoy the satisfaction, joy and fulfilment of our purpose.
All of us need money to live in this world. Money itself does not have any value for our lives, except that it helps us buy things that we need. However, when money itself becomes a thing that we love, value and cherish, then it had turned itself from a mere means to meet our needs, into a desire that we wish to possess by any means and methods; for money now holds the complete attention of our hearts, and we are possessed by it, rather than we possessing it. This is a big red flag, which will eventually lead us into all sorts of problems and dangers. If we continue to walk this path without pausing to correct our course, it will surely destroy us completely. Ananias and Sapphira are a very fine example – money had enamoured them so much that, they rather chose to lie and deceive for the love of it, than be plain and honest about keep some money aside for their needs – Acts 5:1-11.
One can earn money honestly. However it takes hard work, diligence and patience to make it big. However, if one were to cut corners, and weave our way to “success” by employing the means and the methods of the world, it can be gained quickly, and probably a lot more money than by walking the God ordained moral and ethical path. However, “At what cost?” is the question one should be asking?
The LORD speaks to us very clearly about earning money and wealth, all through the Bible. Let us consider one such verse from the book of Proverbs, for this morning’s meditation
– “6 Getting treasures by a lying tongue Is the fleeting fantasy of those who seek death.” – Proverbs 21:6
There are four important points that we can learn from the above fifteen words.
1- GETTING TREASURES
There is nothing wrong is having money. Money itself is not an issue at hand. Money is important for our lives in so many ways.
2- BY A LYING TONGUE
Money is neutral in its nature. It takes no sides. It is the motives of our hearts, and the means and methods we employ in getting our wealth they makes the difference. We we desire to get treasures by a lying tongue, then it takes a different colour.
3- THE FLEETING FANTASY
A desire to get money at any cost; and employ lies, deceit, cheating and manipulation to gain it, is akin to living in a fantasy world. It surely is a fleeting fantasy because, such a person blindly believes, there will be no consequences for their dubious actions. It is worse still, if the person knows about the consequences, and yet pursues money.
4- THOSE WHO SEEK DEATH
Pursuing money with immoral and unethical means and methods is self-determination at its best. When one employs lies, cheating, manipulation and deception to gain name, fame, power, position, influence and wealth, they are simply seeking for their death, in every conceivable form. Death will surely find them, bind them and will ultimately destroy them. Hopefully they realise this before it is too late.
Dear brothers and sisters, let us be careful and wise about money and our love for it. Everyone needs money. Let us be careful how we want to earn it. What means and methods we employ in earning it. For when we are dishonest in earning it, it will lead us to destruction and death. Let us keep lying, cheating, manipulation and deceit far from ourselves, while working and earning money. Even so, the LORD Jesus help us.
