We as Christians, should be expecting to walk through dark and tough times in our lives. Such a situation is but natural, and that is how we should approach it. What gives us, courage and confidence, to face such times, and walk through them confidently is the fact that, God our Creator, is with us, and so are His promises to us. For a Christian, our God is the LIGHT in the darkness. That is why, David the shepherd king says…
– “4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” – Psalms 23:4
Are you walking through a “valley of the shadow of death” this morning? What is it that is troubling you? Is it scary and painful to walk such a path? It sure will be, and that is but natural. There is nothing unusual and unnatural, if we are concerned, troubled, and even scared.
When we go through tough times, we need to learn to look to the LORD, and place our trust in Him, and in His ability, to care for us, and lead us through it all. When we place our trust upon God, we should stop worrying, and start walking in faith. What should be the focus of our attention is not, the raging winds, and the lashing waves, that may be rocking our boat, but rather, the LORD and His promise, to be with us, and help us. If we are focused on all that is happening around us, it simply means, we are not trusting God entirely.
Paul, the apostle to the gentiles, has these words, to help us understand this peculiar thing called FAITH, HOPE…LIGHT. He says thus, in his epistles to the early Church…
– “7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.” “24…hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?” “1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.” – 2 Corinthians 5:7; Romans 8:24; Hebrews 11:1-2
May the LORD help us to trust in the LORD who called us to be His own. May we always walk, trusting in our Redeemer, and in His promises, to help us walk safely, through it all.
– “1 But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. 3 For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Saviour…” – Isaiah 43:1-3
"To walk, in the Scriptures often denotes to live, to act, to conduct in a certain way...It has reference to the fact that life is a journey, or a pilgrimage, and that the Christian is traveling to another country. The sense here is, that we conduct ourselves in our course of life with reference to the things which are unseen, and not with reference to the things which are seen."
