Life, many times, can be a weight and a burden. The feeling of being alone and weight bearing upon us can make us discouraged. David writes Psalm 55 at a time when his “friends” have not only let him down, but we’re actively plotting his fall.
David faced such situations many times over in his life. Whatever hit him, and however hard it may be, David always turned to God for help and shelter. He pours out his heart, and the agony of his suffering to the LORD. We see this in Psalm 55:22 – “22 Cast your burden on the LORD, And He shall sustain you…”
Our hope, our shelter, and our tower of refuge is our LORD. “14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” – Hebrews 4:14-16
"My trust in God flows out of the experience of his loving me, day in and day out, whether the day is stormy or fair, whether I'm sick or in good health, whether I'm in a state of grace or disgrace. He comes to me where I live and loves me as I am."
