The poet in King David has the ability to speak to our hearts, and to all its situations. One such Psalm that speaks to all of us, is Psalm 61. What David says in verses 1-4 speaks volumes about this great warrior king, his understanding of life, and the frailty of it. It also speaks about his personal life, and all its struggles. He is just like us!
One should not stop at that. We need to see from where, David finds his strength, encouragement and inspiration to move on, despite all that is troubling him. Herein is the key to the success of his life, and also ours.
Through the Psalm, David boasts about the “Assurance of God’s Eternal Protection” available to him, also to all of us. Let us read it…
“1 Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. 2 From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy. 4 I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings.” – Selah
Let us, therefore, run to our fortress, shelter, strong tower, rock that is higher than us, and our comfort at all times. Especially, when the chips are down, and the darkness seems to overwhelm us. “The LORD is our Shepherd,” is David’s experience, and it can be ours too.
"That means we must make a choice: Will we focus on the size of our problem or the size of our God? The reality is, we can’t do both."
