The life of Job is a great study for lessons and wisdom for our lives today. There is so much to learn from his life, and so much to help us live a good life.
The book of Job begins with these words – “1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil…8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth [hates] evil?” – Job 1:1,8
What a testimony!!! How wonderful it is to read the words about Job! No wonder the Word of God says, “1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches…” – Proverbs 22:1
The good name that we “earn” is by faithfully and obediently following the LORD in all things pertaining to our life. Such a name is important and essential for us. The LORD evaluates us on the basis of what we have done, with all that is entrusted to us – “The Parable of Talents.” May we like Job, “earn” for ourselves have a good name. May that be the pursuit of our lives. May the LORD help us.
"Good name in man and woman, dear my lord, Is the immediate jewel of their souls: Who steals my purse steals trash; ’tis something, nothing; ’twas mine, ’tis his, and has been slave to thousands; But he that filches from me my good name Robs me of that which not enriches him, And makes me poor indeed."
