In Hebrew, the name “Yeshua” – יֵשׁוּעַ – is a shortened form of the name “Yehoshua” – יְהוֹשֻׁעַ – which essentially means “YAHWEH SAVES” or “YAHWEH IS SALVATION”. Isn’t that wonderful!!!
The very name of JESUS means that He saves? Saving people is not only the name of our Redeemer, but it is His very character, a reflection of His heart.
– “21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” – Matthew 1:21
– “10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.” – Luke 2:10-11
When we look at the ministry of the LORD Jesus, we see the above character trait of our LORD, put to practice. Oh the grace, magnanimity and the compassion of of our Messiah. How amazing it is to read about our “KIND” and “COMPASSIONATE” Redeemer, in the scriptures.
– ” 41 Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” – Mark 1:41
– “14 And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.” – Matthew 14:14
– “12 And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” 14 Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” 15 So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother.” – Luke 7:12-15
– “34 So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.” – Matthew 20:34
– “34 And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things.” – Mark 6:34
The LORD Jesus demonstrated with ample clarity, His compassionate heart. This is a reflection of YAHWEH, the LORD God Almighty, our Creator. What an amazing God is our LORD! He cares for us. He love us. He is concerned about us. He wants to help us.
– “4 What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?” – Psalm 8:4
What needs are bothering us this morning? What matters of life are troubling us this day? What is it that is consuming our energies, and sapping at our peace of mind? Whatever it may be, let us bring it to our LORD. The LORD who had compassion on people, will have the same compassion in us too. Let us sincerely and unpretentiously bring our needs to our Redeemer. He will do the needful, for He is “YESHUA” – “OUR KIND AND COMPASSIONATE REDEEMER!”
"The original word [for compassion] is very expressive; his whole being was stirred to its lowest depth, and therefore he proceeded at once to work miracles of mercy among them."
