The purpose of the cross is, not only to rescue us from our sins, and the consequences of it, but is also to REDEEM us, and RESTORE us back to the original intention of our Creator. The LORD Jesus Himself had said, “10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” – Luke 19:10.
The words of our LORD, if noted, speaks in past tense – “…that which was lost.” In the Telugu Bible, the meaning comes much more clearly – “నశించినదానిని వెదకి రక్షించుటకు మనుష్యకుమారుడు వచ్చెనని అతనితో చెప్పెను.” – “that which is utterly and completely destroyed.”
My dear friends, brothers and sisters, you and I are not only lost, but are utterly and completely destroyed by our sin and its effects. The LORD Jesus had come, not only to redeem us from our sins, and its consequences, but also, to restore us back to the original design and the purpose of God.
This redemption and restoration is made possibly because the LORD chose to Himself pay the price, with His own blood – for there was no other way. It speaks so much about the LORD, and His love for us. It speaks about the immeasurable cost that was paid for our redemption and restoration.
Therefore, let us remember always, the price paid for our redemption; the love of our LORD, in rescuing us; and forever live a life of thankfulness, and be a true witness of the LORD, wherever we are placed. This is so very well summed up by the Apostle Paul – “11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.” – Titus 2:11-14
"The work of redemption was accomplished by Christ in His death on the cross and has in view the payment of the price demanded by a holy God for the deliverance of the believer from the bondage and burden of sin. In redemption the sinner is set free from his condemnation and slavery to sin."
