The cross that the LORD Jesus carried, is indeed, the cruellest form of punishment, reserved for the most hardened criminals. The cross, therefore can be summed up in these words – it is cruellest form of punishment, reserved for the most hardened criminals, as a form of, not only punishing them for their wrongs, but also to act as a warning, and a deterrent, to all the other potential criminals.”
Now, how then should we understand, that the LORD of all Creation, being nailed to it? An innocent man is punished so inhumanly and cruelly – but why? The reason for the LORD, to willingly pay such a painful price is, because of His love for us!
The Word of God reveals to us the heart of God – “11…‘As I live,’ says the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways!…’” “8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us…10…when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son…”
“9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.” “14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.” “4 who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father…” – Ezekiel 33:11, Romans 5:8,10, 2 Corinthians 8:9, Titus 2:14, Galatians 1:4
When I look and think upon the Cross and Christ, I am truly OVERWHELMED by the LOVE, GRACE, MERCY , FORGIVENESS, REDEMPTION and RESTORATION, that is made available to us, the ones who are born out of this supreme self-sacrifice of our LORD Jesus Christ – “1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” – 2 Corinthians 7:1.
May the Cross of Christ, not only OVERWHELM us, but also INSPIRE us to LIVE for Him, and be a TRUE and LIVING witness for Him, ALL through OUR lives. May the LORD help us.
"What we see at the cross is the white-hot revelation of the character of God, of his love providing the price that holiness requires. The cross was his means of redeeming lost sinners and reconciling them to himself, but it was also a profound disclosure of his mercy. It is, in Paul’s words, an ‘inexpressible gift’ that leads us to wonder and worship, to praise and adore the God who has given himself to us in this way."
