“Justice” and “Being Just” is fast becoming a relic, relegated to museum. Everyone believes it is essential, but no one seems to apply it fairly and impartially. They are eager to apply it to strongly when it comes to others, but the same is applied weak and diluted, for themselves. It is good to know that, Justice has two legs, and it stands on fairness and impartiality. This has to be applied the same, and also equally to all who are guilty.
The LORD God Almighty, our Creator, writing down His law for us, in the Bible, displays such clarity in its description, and demonstrates such impeccable fairness and impartiality in its application. The LORD declares – “ALL have sinned…” “The LORD died for ALL the world.” “ALL need the grace of God to be saved…”
When bullies and thugs rule, justice is the first casualty. This is how most of the world is being run today, at almost all levels – one set of justice applies to others, which is implemented harshly and with passionate ferocity. While it comes to applying it to self, and those ‘with us,’ it is either applied weakly, and a totally diluted justice, if at all it is. In some cases, it is entirely ignored, and many times wrong actions are justified and rationalised to be right.
There is a popular expression in my mother tongue which so aptly describes such a situation – “Whatever we do, is for the good of everyone.” Isn’t this the way things are being run in our societies? They further say, “Whatever we do, is right always. Whatever others do is wrong, always.” There is no change is this pre-determined position, and it is permanent.
Fallacies of the fallen world being displayed for all to see, however, none should comment nor speak up. So much for a fair and just world. The LORD, to uphold His justice and implement it impartially, had come down Himself to pay the price for our redemption. Nothing was ‘adjusted’ or ‘diluted’ just because God is doing an undeserving favour to us. This is fairness and impartiality in justice.
God is the epitome of justice and fairness. He has defined it clearly, and demonstrated to us, in and through the redemption act of our Saviour, the LORD Jesus Christ. Therefore, as His disciples, it is but expected the same from us. May the LORD help us to be just, in all our ways.
"Fairness is what justice really is."
