We all make promises to others. Others make promises to us. Many times, due to various factors, we may fail to keep our promises. There will be times we break the promises intentionally too. Breaking our promise is dishonouring our word given to the other person. Whatever could be the reason, we ought to keep our promises.
God too makes promises to us. Yet, God never breaks any of His promises. Isn’t that wonderful!!! Here under we have, some virtues of God, that are closely linked with the God’s promises, and the keeping of them.
-GOD is FAITHFUL – hence the keeping of the promise, regardless of the altered circumstances.
– GOD is TRUTHFUL – therefore every promise is true, and never a lie.
– GOD is SOVEREIGN – nothing can disrupt His promise.
– GOD is GOOD, GRACIOUS and MERCIFUL – so He doesn’t look to our end of the bargain, while upholding the promise He has made.
Here are Bible verses that help us see God, and His heart, towards keeping all the promises He had ever made.
– “14 “And now I am about to go the way of all the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed of all the good things that the LORD your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed.” – Joshua 23:14
– “6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” – Philippians 1:6
– “20 For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.” – 2 Corinthians 1:20
– “23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” – Hebrews 10:23
– “19 God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?”* – Numbers 23:19
– “29 And also the Glory of Israel will not lie or have regret, for he is not a man, that he should have regret.” – 1 Samuel 15:29
– “6 “For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.” – Malachi 3:6
– “2 in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began” – Titus 1:2
– “8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10 “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” – Isaiah 55:8-11
Let us learn to trust God at all times. It is good any given day to trust God than to trust our intelligence or that of others. Even so the LORD help us.
"It is an irrevocable word. Man has to eat his words, sometimes, and unsay his say. He would perform his engagement, but he cannot. It is not that he is unfaithful, but that he is unable. Now this is never so with God. His word never returns to him void. Go, find ye the snowflakes winging their way like white doves back to heaven! Go, find the drops of rain rising upward like diamonds flung up from the hand of a mighty man to find a lodging-place in the cloud from which they fell! Until the snow and the rain return to heaven, and mock the ground which they promised to bless, the word of God shall never return to him void."
