The passage that we are meditating for third straight day, from Psalm 62:5-8, speaks about David’s faith in God, and his utter dependence of YAHWEH’s faithfulness. The words found in this passage should inspire in us, strong faith and trust in God, and also, it should empower us, to walk obediently, in all the righteous paths, that our LORD wants us to walk upon, regardless of all that may be happening in and around us.
Let us read Psalm 62:5-8, and see, what more can we learn from David’s words.
– “5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.” – Psalm 62:5-8
Let us look at these words from verse six, for this morning’s meditation – “6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.”
Have you noticed the emphasis David places on personalising everything? He writes, “MY ROCK, MY SALVATION, MY DEFENCE,” and “I SHALL NOT BE MOVED.” David’s experience of God is not someone else’s experience. It is not some theoretical expression of faith in God. David says, the LORD God Almighty is “MY ROCK, MY SALVATION, MY DEFENCE,” and therefore, “I SHALL NOT BE MOVED.”
Have you also noticed, David calling God Almighty, his ROCK, SALVATION, DEFENCE? All these three expressions speak about God as powerful and strong Protector. In God alone is our safety, security and salvation, is what David is driving at.
The above words speak about the source of David’s faith, and the quality of its strength. God Almighty alone is the One, upon whom David places his trust, because, the LORD God Almighty alone has the power to help us, and also, the will and the desire to do so. How about us? Where is our faith and trust placed? Do we trust like how David does? Is God Almighty our everything? Is God “MY” ROCK, “MY” SALVATION, “MY” DEFENCE or is it merely – ROCK, SALVATION and DEFENCE? May the LORD help us to trust Him like how David trusted Him. Even so, the LORD help us.
"I will not be shaken...[is a] declaration of confidence [reflecting David's] unwavering faith in God's protection and support...[it] suggests a state of spiritual and emotional stability, even in the face of adversity. This assurance is rooted in the understanding of God's unchanging nature and His promises to His people...This confidence is not based on personal strength but on the steadfastness of God as a rock and fortress."
