David is one of those, who have deeply experienced God’s grace, His providence, and His protection, in his life. The experiences that David went through in his life, gave him a unique outlook about God, which many may never experience. Right from a very young age, David saw the hand of God protecting him from his enemies, providing his needs, and promoting him in the social order.
Let us continue to read Psalm 62:5-8, and see, what other lessons are there for us, in these words of David.
– “5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.” – Psalm 62:5-8
In verse seven David restates, what he had stated in the previous verse, albeit, with small changes. Herein is written for us, what David firmly believes, personally. This is born out of his experiences. He is not only declaring the greatness of YAHWEH, but is also declaring to us, his faith in the LORD God Almighty, the only Ruler of all things, visible and invisible.
– “7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.”
David is declaring boldly with faith, that, YAHWEH is not only “MY SALVATION” but is also the Source and the Reason for “MY GLORY.” YAHWEH, by virtue of His traits, is “THE ROCK OF MY STRENGTH.” David further declares that, in all his troubles and trials, “MY REFUGE” – My Shelter and My Safety, “IS IN GOD” and God alone. In simpler words, David is saying – “IN YAHWEH ALONE IS OUR DELIVERANCE AND DIGNITY.”
What about us? Who is our rock, our refuge, our deliverer and our glory? Let us always believe, and accordingly walk, that “IN YAHWEH ALONE IS OUR DELIVERANCE AND DIGNITY.” For there is no other god, who can, and will, save us, and sustain us, through all that this life will throw at us.
"In the biblical context, salvation often refers to deliverance from enemies or distress, as seen throughout the Psalms. Honour, in ancient Israelite culture, was closely tied to one's reputation and standing within the community. The psalmist acknowledges that both his deliverance and his reputation are secure in God, reflecting a deep trust in God's sovereignty and faithfulness."
