Lying is a trait, which revels a lot more about the person, his principles, values, ethics and his attitude, than does killing someone. We ought to be careful with lying. It has the power to destroy us utterly, without we ever realising its evil potential.
– “Lying is an act of betrayal, and it violates the trust your friend, partner, or family member is trying to build with you. When people uncover lies, depending on how damaging the lies are, some relationships are ruined beyond repair. The risk is not worth losing such a valuable connection.” – Dawson McAllister
The position that LORD commands His children is, to speak the truth always. Do not colour it, nor conveniently cover it, with all sorts of logic and rationale for lying.
– “22 Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, But those who deal truthfully are His delight.” – Proverbs 12:22
– “16 These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.” – Proverbs 6:16-19
Lies don’t pay good. They always reward destruction and death. Therefore, the Bible further encourages us to repent of our sin, and rectify the error of lying, and the recompense the loss, if any caused by our lying, since we are now Christians, the disciples of the LORD Jesus Christ.
– “9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, 11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. 12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.” – Colossians 3:9-14
– *”8 Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.” – Luke 19:8
Let us desire to walk the paths of righteousness, as our LORD desires for us. May we honour the LORD with our lives, and with truth. Let us seek the LORD, to grant us grace to speak the truth always.
– “6 My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, That they may dwell with me; He who walks in a perfect way, He shall serve me. 7 He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; He who tells lies shall not continue in my presence.” – Psalms 101:6-7
Even so, the LORD help us.
"The God of truth loves the truth and regards the lips that spread lies as offensive, an abomination...The same God who regards lies as an abomination takes delight in those who value and tell the truth. Wisdom’s lesson is plain: stop lying and start telling the truth."
