Can anyone know the heart and the mind of God? Is it possible for man to know the thoughts of God? Is human knowledge and intelligence capable enough to understand God, and discern His ways of God? If I were to answer it honestly, an emphatic no. If I have to be brutally honest – never. Man in his finite capacity can never ever grasp the things of God, unless it were revealed to us. This is the undeniable reality, however unpleasant it might be.
– “33 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and decisions and how unfathomable and untraceable are His ways!” – Romans 11:33 – Amplified Bible Version
Man, including us, are finite beings. It is silly even to attempt trying to know all that is to be known of God. The point is not about knowing God, but about the capabilities of human beings, and our ability to know and understand things of God. Fallen man pridefully assumes that he is very well capable of knowing all things…including God Almighty. Such an approach and the attitude is sorely pitiable, to say the least.
– “7 “Can you search out the deep things of God? Can you find out the limits of the Almighty? 8 They are higher than heaven—what can you do? Deeper than Sheol—what can you know? 9 Their measure is longer than the earth And broader than the sea.” – Job 11:7-9
How about us, as the disciples of the LORD Jesus, dear brothers and sisters? Does our fallen human nature tries to guide us to know who God is? Does it whisper to us that God does not care for us? Does our human intellect and knowledge tell us that we are unworthy and undeserving to receive the grace, mercy and love of God? Yes, we are undeserving, but the LORD God Almighty, our Creator, truly cares for us and wants to be gracious and merciful forwards the fallen man. This is why He had sent to us the Messiah, our LORD Jesus Christ. If we are not alert and attentive and fully dependent upon the Spirit of God, our human knowledge can and will guide us to end up with wrong conclusions.
– “9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.” – 1 Corinthians 2:9-10
May we always seek the LORD Jesus to help us always be humble in His presence, and seek His grace to help us know Him, and help us know His ways. Even so, the LORD Jesus help us.
"[The apostle Paul in] Romans 11:33 pulls back the curtain on God’s character and leaves us in awe. His wisdom and knowledge are bottomless treasures; His judgments, though beyond our analysis, are flawlessly just; His ways, though impossible to map, always lead to the fulfillment of His loving purposes. Our proper response is worship, trust, and humble surrender to the God whose greatness we will spend eternity exploring."
