“You must be born again” said the LORD Jesus to Nicodemus. What do we mean by being “Born Again” is a question that would arise naturally? It is a clear and total transformation of a person from what he or she was living prior to accepting the LORD Jesus Christ as their Saviour. It is like being born anew – like we were when we entered this world, leaving behind our mother’s womb. When a person is “Born Again” he still remains the same person, but in a different world. Same person but with an entirely different thinking. Same person but with a different set of priorities. Same person but with a different set of moral and ethical standards.
– “3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” – John 3:3-4
– “9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation…13 For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” – Romans 10:9-10,13
When we give our sinful nature to God by believing in the LORD Jesus, and confessing Him as our Saviour, the LORD begins to transform us. We will not be the same person any more. We will be transformed into an entirely different person.
– “19 Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, 20 that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God.” – Ezekiel 11:19-20
Here under we see the lives of three people from the pages of Church History, whose lives have been touched and transformed by the LORD Jesus Christ. The transformation was so powerful that they couldn’t stay the way they were, anymore.
– 15 October 1894 – Rainisoalambo, a diviner on Madagascar, throws away all his amulets and apparatus of divination. The night before, wretched with ulcers, he had called out to the God of Norwegian missionaries and sensed he must get rid of his sorcerous props. Doing so today, he immediately feels a weight lift off him. He knows that he has become a new man and begins reading the Bible. As he assimilates the message of the New Testament, he will begin soul-winning. A group calling themselves “Disciples of the Lord” will form around him and become an evangelistic force on the island.
– 15 October 1906 – Death in Tokyo of Joseph Schereschewsky, a Jew, who, while studying as a rabbinic student in Germany, had converted to Christianity. He served as a missionary to China and was the bishop of Shanghai where he translated the Bible and other Christian works into the Wenli language, continuing work even after he became almost totally paralyzed.
– 15 October 1932 – Gladys Aylward sails from Liverpool bent on bringing the gospel to China despite being told by mission boards she is not fit for the task. Her heroic adventures and rescue of over one hundred orphans will inspire the film “Inn of the Sixth Happiness.”
Dear brothers and sisters, how about us this morning? Are our lives ablaze for Christ our Redeemer and Master, if we claim to believe in Him as our LORD and Saviour? Have we gone spiritually cold, that the cares of this world have dented our love and fire for the LORD Jesus and His work, that is entrusted to us? Let us pause and take stock of ourselves. Let us seek the LORD to help us live for Him in faith and in obedience. Even so, the LORD Jesus help us.
"The Spirit transformed Saul in two fundamental ways. First, He took Paul’s natural strengths and refined them. Saul was a gifted natural leader with a strong willpower. He was a man of strong convictions. He was a self-starter. He was bold; a master at using his time and talents. He was a motivated individual, a profoundly gifted thinker and speaker. Secondly, the spirit also eliminated undesirable characteristics and replaced them with desirable ones. He replaced Saul’s cruel hatred with love, his restless, aggressive spirit with peace, his rough, hard-nosed treatment of people with gentleness, and his pride with humility."
