FAITH WORTH EMULATING – ABRAHAM

Faith in God our Father, our LORD and our Redeemer is simple and straightforward. There is no confusion about it. Now how do we know it is so? Who else is better than our LORD Jesus Christ? Our LORD had said…
– “2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 18:2-4

The faith and trust that a child places upon his parents is what is called for by the LORD for all who wish to follow Him, and be His disciples. Abraham, Joseph, David and Daniel are the four heroes of faith that come to my mind, when I think about “FAITH WORTH EMULATING.”

Let us look at the life of Abraham and his faith for this morning’s meditation. 

ABRAHAM – Abraham is rightly called the Father of Faith. God told him to leave everything and simply walk behind God to the place which only God knew…not Abraham. Abraham simply trusted God more than the questions he had. The same is repeated when God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, the promised offspring. This is real faith.
– “1 Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. 2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” 4 So Abram departed as the LORD had spoken to him…” – Genesis 12:1-4
– “1 Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” 3 So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey…and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.” – Genesis 22:1-3

Now let us pause for a moment and ask ourselves this question. How would we respond if we were in Abraham’s place? Would we be willing to leave everything and follow God’s instructions? Would we unquestioningly obey the LORD’s command to offer our only son born in the ripe old age? Would we demonstrate a faith which is willing to obey the LORD despite all the raging questions in our hearts and minds? Such faith is what our LORD is expecting from us.
– “8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.” – Hebrews 11:8
– “6 And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.” – Genesis 15:6

We are called to implicitly trust God, His judgement and His timing. This is the true biblical faith that we are called to. Are we game for such a faith? Let us honestly answer this question, and transparently lay ourselves bare before the LORD. May the LORD Jesus help us to be people of true faith. Even so, the LORD help us.
