The world is in a race against itself, and is speeding up its pace by the day. Life has become, in so many ways, hectic, cumbersome and also complex and complicated. What was called as normal life, a generation ago, is now, so drastically different…almost unrecognisable. Life has become a race, and we seem to be in a mad rush…don’t know to where, and don’t know what to achieve…and don’t know what we are paying in return for it…and don’t know if it is worth it. Don’t you think so?
One of the consequences of such a hectic life, and work-style is, our health. We are invariably affected physically, mentally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and relationally. We seem to have no rest at all, and are tightly wound almost, all our waking hours, and the sleep seems to be elusive and evasive to many. Is this not, in many cases, the reality today?
Before it is too late, and needs a complete shutdown for repair and restoration, let us pause and ponder about what is essential and important in our lives. It is good, and it helps us to regain our perspective. Also, we regain our zest for life and living.
The LORD God our Creator has these words of advice for us – “6 Better a handful with quietness, Than both hands full, together with toil and grasping for the wind.” “16 Better is a little with the fear of the LORD, Than great treasure with trouble.” – Ecclesiastes 4:6; Proverbs 15:16
Work is good and essential. However, a balance in life is, more important and essential, for us to live our life to its full. May the LORD help us to live our lives as He originally intended it to be – fruitful to the fullest.
"6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness."
