For us as a Christian, the LORD and our work are inseparable. Not that the work competes with our LORD. Rather our work complements the faith we have in our LORD. Our attitude and our approach to work will reveal to everyone, who we are, what we believe, and our heart’s attitude towards everything in life – our standards, values, ethics and principles we hold and cherish in our hearts.
Paul writing in Titus 2:9, reveals the heart of God towards a Christian worker, and his heart – “9 Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, 10 not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.”
The Bible begs us some very important questions. What about us? What kind of a worker are we? Is the LORD, whom we profess to be our Redeemer and Master, reflected in our work and our attitude towards it? Would our Creator say to us, “Well done thou good and faithful servant?” What would our answers be?
"A job is a vocation, only if someone else calls you to do it for them, rather than for yourself. And so, our work can be a calling, only if it remains as a mission of service, to something beyond merely our own interests. Thinking of work mainly as a means of self-fulfillment and self-realization slowly crushes a person."
