On the first day of a brand-new year, I am reminded of the beautiful words “All I have needed Thy hand hath provided” from the timeless classic hymn, “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” How wonderful and deeply satisfying it is, to meditate upon the goodness, the grace, and the mercy of God! O what a wonderful God is He, who called us, of all, the fallen, sinful and rebellious enemies of God Himself, from the darkness and the depths of hell, into His marvellous light!!!
The apostle Peter, writing to the early Christians, has these wonderful words of comfort, encouragement and inspiration, which reveal a lot to us – “2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” – 2 Peter 1:2-4
The two small sentences, right at the beginning of the second epistle of Peter, give us such comfort, encouragement, inspiration and strength as we look at the new year, 2024.
1- GOD GAVE US ALL THINGS PERTAINING TO LIFE and GODLINESS through the knowledge of God who called us out of darkness – “3…His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.” We do not need anything.
2- WE ARE GIVEN EXCEEDINGLY GREAT AND PRECIOUS PROMISES that help us to be partakers of the divine nature to which we are called – “4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature…” The promises of God are everything that we need.
What a God is the God of all Creation, the God our Redeemer!!! He had given us all things, that we need for this life. Also, He has given us, His exceedingly great and precious promises, to help us be moulded, into the image of the LORD Jesus Christ. The LORD has provided, all that we ever need. “All I have needed, Thy hand hath provided.” Therefore the year 2024 will go well…because of God!!! Isn’t that great? It sure is!!! Wish you and your family, A Very HAPPY NEW YEAR!
"When we look to God as provider, we are surrendering our independence and trusting someone else to meet our needs, over which we have no control. Letting go of our ‘dependence on independence’ and letting someone else take control goes against natural human instinct. We need to fight the urge to take over and just let God be God, because He can provide for us better than we can."
